Formed in 2012, this high-energy band from Blackwood, South Wales has certainly made the headlines locally and nationally in music press. Playing a mix of covers and originals, they certainly get the dance floor filling up!

To capture the vibe and feel of classic blues, rock and roll, country, and R+B in a modern and contemporary way is no mean feat.

Step forward GLAS, a three piece band from S Wales. Featuring a combined collective of talent that has seen them share stages with the likes of  Albert Lee.The Groundhogs, Bill Kirchen, Leo Bud Welch, Crazy Cavan and The Rhythm Rockers, The Spellkasters, and Gerry Mcavoy's Band Of Friends , John Otway, Jason Ricci,Mick Pini, Deke Leonard and Ben Waters. First Raitt

As the name suggests, this band covers the legendary Bonnie Raitt American Blues.

Members - legendary flame haired blues singer, Caroline Tarbuck and bottle neck wizard Roger Slade plus a driving rhythm section comprising Pete Watson on keys, Ian Vallin on bass and John Furlong on drums.

Keith Thompson Band

British Blues Rock musician Keith Thompson, solo and with his band have been consistently performing in mainland Europe now for 20+ years, where he is well known to the large blues following as an exciting live performer. Keith and the band have toured in Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Poland, USA & UK. They also appeared at several major festivals in Croatia including Baska International Guitar Festival, Umag and Kastav Blues Festivals. Also at Slovenia at the prestigious “Postonja Blues Festival” with “Ten Years After” and “Paul Lamb and the Kingsnakes”, Suwalki and Krosno Festivals in Poland alongside, Jeremy Spencer (Fleetwood Mac), Clarksdale Blues Festival, USA, Colne R&B festival in Lancashire, Swanage, Banbury Upton and Gloucester Blues Festivals in the UK. Keith has added his skills on stage or in recordings to projects by Spooky Tooth, Mike D’Abo, Steve Winwood, Ruby Turner, Larry Burton, Dave Markee and Henry Spinetti (Eric Clapton Band and Tina Turner) Greg Ridley of Humble Pie, Robbie Blunt, (Robert Plant) Luther Grosvenor of Mott The Hoople, Gino Washington, and many others.

In the winter months of 1994, guitarist JAMIE THYER took time out from playing on demonstrations for Marshall amplification and Rotosound strings. He began writing and rehearsing with a rhythm section under the ironic name of THE WORRIED MEN. (Originally going to be called the Brain Thieves)! Initially, they considered that the originality of their style and direction would place them on the outer peripheries of fashion motivated rock music, yet, because of their ability to entertain and not merely play, enthusiastic audiences, promoters and even record companies swiftly disproved this!

Their live album Fear and Loathing at the Wünder Bar was recommended by Venue and AWOL magazines, and despite a lack of formal promotion, their local gigs attracted an avalanche of press and an ever-growing mailing list. As a direct result of this, THE WORRIED MEN embarked on a relentless succession of nationwide dates, averaging around four or five gigs per week at such venues as NOTTINGHAM ROCK CITY, London's famous MARQUEE CLUB, etc, alongside some of the worlds leading rock and blues musicians, including ROBIN TROWER, CHICKEN SHACK, WILKO JOHNSON, ROBERT CRAY, JEFFERSON STARSHIP, besides many others - always to an overwhelming reception. (Partly due to the practice of constantly adding to their repertoire, thereby ensuing no two shows are the same). It seemed as though a tired and jaded rock scene needed their fresh approach!

THE WORRIED MEN continue touring around England and Ireland, often seen in the company of PETER GREEN, JOHNNY WINTER, NINE BELOW ZERO, WALTER TROUT, etc. Recently, Jamie was invited to join forces with MOTT THE HOOPLE'S VERDEN ALLEN on an adventure which produced the album Love You and Leave You (Angel Air Records), taking in many gigs at top venues, BBC radio broadcasts and an opportunity to headline the main stage at Cambridge Rock Festival; each episode earning Jamie much praise, much press and many plaudits.

JAMIE THYER & THE WORRIED MEN CAFÉ RACER ROAD DOG RECORDS Jamie Thyer is something of a cult figure among followers of that very British Biker Blues Rock style, and he really is an outstanding performer. Along with his Worried Men they relentlessly play live and have several thousand gigs under their belts. They are the classic three-piece line up and the tightness and dexterity of the rhythm section allows Jamie to swoop and soar over the ten tracks on here. Untamed Beast starts the ball rolling and your left in no doubt that this is a high standard of rock blues. Powerful guitar playing and cemented down with great bass lines from Dave Hellhound. Teenage Firewater Queen delivers exactly what the title conjours up but in a very satisfying way. More virtuoso playing from Jamie on One Eyed Hound again augmented by the sheer tightness of the guys behind him. By the time we get to Green Lights there is a change of pace, this wonderfully evocative instrumental piece starting with a strummed acoustic and building to a full electric crescendo. Maybe my personal favourite is Long Ride Home, a fab bluesy opening breaking into a slide bonanza of a track that has you involuntary head shaking and foot tapping. Hot Valves precedes another lovely instrumental with an acoustic The Harlot's Ghost. Final two tracks The Devil In The Fog and Café Racer bring this beautiful slab of blues rock to a shuddering end. This South West based band have an awesome live reputation and deserve a much bigger audience. If you've ever been a fan of classic British three-piece bands like Groundhogs, Hamsters or early Budgie go for this, you won't be disappointed. STEVE YOURGLIVCH BLUES MATTERS

Below the Salt

Below The Salt came together in late-2015 when Scratch and Pete Beresford decided to look for other like-minded souls to play some blues.  At the time, available blues bass players and drummers were in short supply, but Pete's son Iain and Jake Pryor offered to join forces to get things moving, even though their collective blues-playing experience was somewhat limited.

BTS mix a number of different blues styles to give a powerful and varied set, including both original offerings and song versions from the likes of Muddy Waters, Sonny Boy Williamson, Taj Mahal, Dr Feelgood and Free.

The guys don't gig too often, but that makes it all the more worthwhile coming along for a great night of blues 'n' rhythm with one of the best new Bristol bands!

The line-up is:
Pete Beresford - Lead vocals, harmonica
Scratch - Guitars
Jake Pryor - Bass guitar
Iain Beresford – Drums

One Night Stand

Mike Palomares and myself first played together in a covers band back in 1979 and in 1981 split and went our separate ways, then after a small interval of some 25 years and many other musical ventures in between we resumed our playing partnership with myself on drums and backing vocals and Mike on guitar, this lasted for around 2 years.

In 2007 we met Geoff Doe at an open Mike evening in Clevedon and along with our bass player at the time we talked about forming a Rythmn & Blues band. Andy Sayers who had played in a few different bands in Bristol (Triple State and The Exhibition to name 2) joined us on drums and I took over the role of vocalist. We then teamed up with a Rythmn guitarist and the line-up became 6.

This carried on for around 3 years when both bass and Rythmn guitar left and we teamed up with Chris Gregory ( ex Bones) on bass and our Rythmn section became complete. Mike took over the sole guitar mantle and so we arrive at 2017.

Our set has changed over the nearly 10 years we have been together but the heart of the band still remains Rythmn & Blues.

Line Up:
Mike Palomares- Lead & Rythmn Guitar, Backing Vocals
Geoff Doe- Harmonica
Andy Sayers- Drums, Backing Vocals
Chris Gregory- Bass
Steve Sayers- Vocals & Occasional Tambourine!

We formed in Nov 2007.

Phil Prowse Blues Band

Phil started singing and playing harmonica to help him cope with the death of his son, Paul.

After a few years playing various Bristol blues jam sessions trying to find people to work with, a chance encounter with a mutual friend led to a late night phone call to Mark Witney (guitar) who was also going through various life changing experiences.

By this stage, Phil was working with Jon (drums), Ed (rhythm guitar) and Mike (bass) in an early incarnation of Harpin' On.

Another chance encounter at a series of jazz workshops in Bradford on Avon, this time between Mark and Tim Walker (bass and assorted technical things) led to the recruitment of a new bassist, injecting some serious aviation propellant into the band and the next incarnation of Harpin' On was born.

About 12 months later Ed left and we became a four piece with occasional guest appearances from local guitarists, harmonica players and the great Sean “The Horn” McBride on sax.

A couple of festivals later and another line up change brought in Adrian Hindsley on drums, allowing the band to explore new styles and ideas.  A couple more festivals, a live recording and a name change to “The Phil Prowse Blues Band” and the most recent addition of the very excellent ex-West End Musicals Director Gareth Williams on keys and the line up is complete.

PPBB play with energy and abandon and a complete lack of regard for any set list relying on their years of experience to play for up to 3 hours a time.  Most gigs are 2-2.5 hours of hot, sweaty blues, swing, funk, ska, and pop (modern and classic) in our own style.  We have even been known to play Disco music! We keep people dancing all night and play regular return gigs at most venues.

Signed to a Spanish record company in the late 80's with the band 'Cut the Wire' he has also worked in many aspects of the music industry including stage management, sound engineering, running a recording studio and crewing for other bands on the road. But his first love is playing.

The Terraplanes

The Terraplanes were formed in 2013 when blues guitarist and singer songwriter Nick Scrase met Eduardo Allen..a Portuguese harmonica player living in Bristol …at an open mic night in The Greenhouse on Park Street.

Scrase was playing an old country blues song when Allen (who always carried a harmonica in his pocket) jumped up on stage and joined in. The pair quickly became friends with a shared appreciation for authentic Delta Blues.

They took their name from legendary bluesman Robert Johnson’s first record “Terraplane Blues” (a masterclass in Johnson’s distinctive finger picking bottleneck guitar style).

The pair played as a duo and recorded an acoustic blues E.P and performed at Bristol venues such as The Old Duke, Mr Wolfs, The Gallimaufry, Under the Stars and LeftBank on Bristol’s Gloucester Rd and it was at The LeftBank that they did their first gig as a 4 piece with Andrew Wood on bass and Tom Turner on drums.

The Luke Doherty Band

Luke Doherty –  Was born on 29th March 1994, in Newport, Gwent. He had an interest in music at a very young age. Although no one in his family play an instrument, he was determined to learn to play something, and at the age of 5 he started playing piano, but didn’t like it. He then asked to play the drums but was told by a drum teacher he was way too young and to wait a couple of years. He then settled on a 1/2 size acoustic guitar which he had to give up after 3 months due to medical reasons. At 71/2 he was nagging his parents again to learn guitar, so they bought him a second hand 1/2 size electric guitar and a second hand amp and he has never looked back. He instantly became hooked on blues, intently watching any blues musicians he could find on TV or DVD

Paul Morgan…. has played on the blues circuit for many years and have played at numerous international festivals. He started playing guitar, flute, harmonica and many other instruments at the age of 12. Over the years he has played with many bands around the country including The Hawks for a short time. Paul’s also Supported many people over the years including Dr Feelgood, The Crazy World of Arthur Brown, Paul Young and Deep Purple to name but a few. Luke approached Paul in January 2009 and asked him if he would consider joining the band and singing for him, Luke admirers Paul’s harmonica playing and bluesy voice. He is thoroughly enjoying himself traveling all around the Country. Paul is very grateful and privileged to announce he is now endorsed by Eagle music.

This is just a taste of this band. Read much more about them, see pictures and more here.

James Oliver Band
